Tracks
Choose your track of instruction from the following.
Track 1 – Writing and Theme
A good yearbook
that lasts is one where the text reflects the whole year and
the whole school. Brainstorm how you will
reflect your entire campus throughout the book, and then
polish the writing skills that will make your book exciting
and fun to read.
Track 2 – Basic Design and Layout Development
Designers learn the basics of good yearbook design and how
to consistently carry design ideas and style throughout the
book.
Track 3 – Photography
This track will stress
digital photography including lighting, composition, editing,
image optimization and digital database
management. We’ll look at how to create stunning images,
with students photographing assignments during the session.
Bring your digital camera. Also, having a laptop with Photoshop
CS is highly recommended.
Track 4 – Effective Student Leadership and Management
The primary focus of this interactive workshop will be to identify your communication, management, and leadership styles and to explore how these styles affect your ability to lead and manage a staff. Capitalizing on the latest research in Organizational Behavior, Organization Theory, Group Processes and Counseling Techniques, this track will also teach you how to build and motivate a working, cohesive staff. This track is designed for students and advisers who will manage a staff between 2 - 100 people. Participants will need to bring an open, inquisitive mind and be willing to participate in numerous activities.
Track 5 – Advanced Design
Sessions for this fast-paced class include demonstrations on how to apply the latest trends in typography, color usage, white space, graphics, photography and contemporary design techniques, everything from grid structure to emulating popular magazine design. However, the focus will be on applying those skills to produce yearbook spreads and improving the design of those spreads for a contemporary audience. A grasp of the fundamentals of design and knowledge of the basic use of Adobe InDesign are necessary for this class. Designers should be sure to bring their own laptop computer with Adobe InDesign or other pagination software installed.
Cover Designer
Book an hour with our Cover Designer/Artist Sebastian Chiri
for an additional charge. He will coach editors through the
creative process and incorporate their ideas of yearbook theme
to produce a cover design.
Under the guidance of this accomplished artist, students may
also wish to brainstorm ways to employ those graphic elements
throughout their book. Editors will benefit by having a thematic
and visual direction as well as a cover design before the start
of a new school year.
Groups with paid registration may request
