What to bring
Participants should select a track for the
workshop based on the main topic they are interested in. We
discourage people moving from track to track because the instructors
have designed their programs to run sequentially. The instructors
have offered the following suggestions to help attendees prepare
for their tracks before the workshop.
Track 1 – Writing and Theme
Bring last year’s yearbook, any magazines you think are
WONDERFULLY designed, lots of facts and information about your
school (catalog and more) and of course, paper, pen and markers.
Also, bring any writing samples, particularly those written for
the yearbook.
Track 2 – Basic Design and Layout Development
Bring a copy of your most recent yearbook, a copy of the ladder
for the upcoming year and any samples of design (i.e., magazines,
CD covers, posters, etc.) that you hope to incorporate into the
yearbook design. These are optional but would help in the planning
of your design.
Track 3 – Photography
Bring your camera and samples of your photography. Slides are
best but printed copies or good quality copy machine copies are
fine if you have them.
Track 4 – Effective Student Leadership and Management
Bring copies of your organizational structure/plans for the yearbook
staff and any job descriptions you have for staff positions. Should come with an open mind, willingness to try, comfortable clothes, and $5 (you will get it back).
Track 5 – Advanced Design
Bring your laptops with your desktop publishing software installed. It is best if no more than two students work
together on each computer. If you have a theme or concept idea
started, bring the materials with you for the development of that.
Bring any fonts you might use so that you can work in your
book as much as possible. Also, bring a copy of your most recent
publication. Additional information about what to bring to this
track is available in a PDF file for
download. The instructor will be using Adobe InDesign CS3 but you can use whatever software you will be using at your school.
Time Management 101 Mini-Course New!
Participants should bring an office planning calendar, preferably one they can hang on the wall of their yearbook office.
Note: If participants find the
pace and level of instruction in this track faster than what
they anticipated, they can move to Track 2, Basic Design and
Layout Development, or another track at the beginning of the
workshop. Please coordinate this move with the workshop director.
Cover Designer
Please limit participation to four people so that the designer
can better work with your group. |
