11th Annual National College Yearbook Workshop

May 31 - June 2, 2012 Hampton Inn and Suites New Orleans, Louisiana
sponsored by: Lesley W. Marcello College Media Consultants, Inc. in conjunction with: Balfour Yearbooks

Welcome

For 10 years, students and advisers throughout the country have come to New Orleans to get a head start on yearbook planning for the next year. Through Hurricane Katrina, the recovery afterwards and BP, the workshop has survived and thrived - and responded to suggestions by attendees.

They’ve come for the hands-on classroom instruction, the passion and knowledge of the faculty — as well as the chance to meet others who care about yearbooks as much as they do. Plus they have come to experience the Big Easy, especially when the teams of writers and photographers head into the city to find their stories and pictures. They celebrate in the closing session where they share their talents with the rest of the workshop.

Frank LoMonte, executive director of the Student Press Law Center in Arlington, VA, will return as the keynote speaker at the Thursday dinner. He will discuss legal issues affecting yearbooks and be available afterwards to answer your staff's questions.

Other highlights include:

  • the use of social networks like Facebook and Twitter and interactive design using Adobe InDesign CS5
  • a marketing forum designed to help you market your book in print and online
  • an Advisers' Roundtable
  • sessions on photography, sports, Adobe Illustrator, Studio Works, etc.

(Check out the whole list in the brochure [PDF] and on the web.)

Mini-courses start at 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning and are of varying times and lengths before the tracks begin that afternoon. We repeat some of them, so people have a chance to hear different instructors.

All mini-courses require advance registration and an additional fee. (See workshop registration and schedules for mini-courses & tracks for times and costs.) The tracks start Thursday afternoon, continue until 5 p.m. Friday and end Saturday at 11 a.m.

More than 100 students and advisers from over 28 college yearbook staffs attend each year, so there are plenty of people with whom you'll meet and share yearbook ideas.
